Our Gifted Learner Groups are designed for gifted and high-ability learners who benefit from structured opportunities to build cognitive skills—like attention, reasoning, memory, and flexible problem-solving—while learning healthy habits for emotional regulation and resilience.
These groups are ideal for children preparing to enter high-stress or accelerated academic environments, or for families who want to proactively support balanced growth in both intellect and emotional development.
Our small-group format helps children practice essential cognitive and executive functioning skills in an engaging, social setting.
Each session is guided by a Calm Down Kids clinician and includes:
Cognitive enrichment activities that stretch reasoning, planning, and memory
Collaborative problem-solving that supports flexible thinking and creativity
Attention and persistence exercises to strengthen focus under pressure
Emotion regulation tools woven in naturally to promote confidence and calm thinking
Children work in age-appropriate groups so they can develop skills alongside peers with similar learning profiles and curiosity levels.
Focus areas include:
Strengthening attention and working memory through hands-on challenges
Building frustration tolerance and flexible thinking
Practicing turn-taking, focus, and goal-directed persistence
Encouraging curiosity and problem-solving as part of early academic readiness
Focus areas include:
Strengthening executive functioning (planning, prioritizing, shifting, monitoring)
Enhancing reasoning and metacognitive awareness (“thinking about thinking”)
Learning strategies to stay focused and composed under academic pressure
Building self-advocacy and balanced confidence in high-demand environments
Each group is led by a Calm Down Kids clinician experienced in child development, cognitive assessment, and enrichment-based intervention.
Our team creates an encouraging environment where children can challenge their minds, develop new strategies, and build emotional readiness for success in school and life.
Dr. Erica Williams, PsyD, has extensive experience supporting children in developing emotional awareness, confidence, and resilience, and her approach blends warmth, humor, and structure to help each child feel safe and supported.
In our Gifted Learners Groups, Erica creates an environment where children are seen, understood, and appropriately challenged. She guides them through activities that strengthen thinking skills, problem-solving, and social-emotional growth, helping bright and curious minds flourish in both academic and everyday settings.
Parents appreciate Erica’s ability to connect with children, foster curiosity, and provide positive, engaging guidance that promotes long-term growth and self-confidence.

The group focuses on building the cognitive skills that are often assessed in IQ tests, such as reasoning, memory, attention, and problem-solving. While these skills may help your child feel more confident and capable, participation in the group does not guarantee higher IQ or test scores. The goal is to support overall cognitive growth, academic readiness, and emotional resilience, rather than preparing specifically for a test.
Yes! While cognitive skill-building is the primary goal, emotional regulation and peer interaction are woven in to help children feel more confident and resilient in social and academic situations.
The group is designed to help gifted and high-ability children strengthen cognitive skills—including attention, reasoning, memory, and flexible problem-solving—while also practicing healthy habits for emotional regulation and resilience.
Children ages 6–9 and 10–13 who are intellectually advanced, highly curious, or twice-exceptional (2e). The groups are ideal for children preparing for high-stress or accelerated academic environments or for families wanting to support balanced intellectual and emotional growth.
Our groups are designed with small class sizes to ensure each child receives individualized attention. Children engage in play- and activity-based exercises that strengthen cognitive skills, while also having opportunities to practice problem-solving, social interaction, and flexible thinking. Emotional regulation activities are seamlessly incorporated throughout, helping children develop confidence and resilience as they build their intellectual abilities.
Children ages 6–9 focus on developing foundational thinking skills, including attention, memory, and early social-emotional abilities, while building confidence in how they approach challenges. Older children, ages 10–13, concentrate on advanced cognitive skills such as executive functioning, reasoning, planning, and strategies for managing the increased demands and expectations of higher academic environments.
Groups are led by a Calm Down Kids clinician experienced in working with gifted, high-ability, and twice-exceptional learners.
Each group is small, and we start a session once 5 children are enrolled in that specific age group. Group size goes up to 8 participants.
Groups meet at our Campbell office, and sessions are 60 minutes each week for 6 weeks. Specific days and times will be provided once interest is confirmed.
