ACADEMIC LEARNING PROFILE

Go beyond the IQ score.

Discover how your child learns, remembers, and applies their abilities to reading, writing, and math. The Academic Learning Profile is an optional add-on for families who want a more complete picture of their child as a learner.

IQ TESTING + ACADEMIC INSIGHT

How does your child think—and how do they use those abilities academically?

IQ testing looks at reasoning, verbal abilities, visual-spatial thinking, working memory, and processing speed. Academic testing explores current skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Learning and memory testing examines how your child takes in, retains, and recalls new information.

The ALP is offered only to children who have booked a Calm Down Kids IQ assessment because IQ results provide the context needed to interpret academic, learning, and memory patterns appropriately.

NOT ONLY FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE STRUGGLING

Understand strengths as well as challenges.

The ALP can help families identify unexpectedly strong skills, differences between cognitive and academic abilities, and opportunities for enrichment or targeted support. It may be especially useful for gifted and twice-exceptional children whose abilities vary meaningfully across areas.

The ALP is not a comprehensive learning disability evaluation. If results raise concerns about dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or another learning disorder, we can discuss whether additional assessment is appropriate.

READY TO ADD ACADEMIC INSIGHT?

Add a deeper understanding of how your child learns.

After your child's IQ assessment is booked, reserve an additional 1½–2 hour Saturday or Sunday appointment in Los Altos. Your child's cognitive, academic, learning, and memory results will be interpreted together to create a more useful picture of their strengths and needs.
