Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions to Help You Prepare for Test Day

What is your next available appointment?

We offer IQ assessment on Saturdays and Sundays, excluding major holidays. Click the "Schedule an Appointment" button to see our next available.

Where are you located? Can you do assessments online?

We offer in-person assessment in our office in Campbell, CA on Sunday. We are located across the street from the Campbell Community Center near downtown Campbell.

We have offer Saturday appointments in San Mateo. We are located in downtown San Mateo, a block from CalTrain. We do not offer online assessments.

What can I expect?

On the day of the appointment, please be sure to look up the address of the office ahead of time. We're a bit tucked away and it's easy to miss the turn. Make sure you can get here on time or a little early.

When you arrive your clinician will greet you and your child and walk you both back to the testing room. This is your opportunity to ask any questions. Once your child is comfortably settled into the room you will be asked to leave so that the clinician can begin the assessment. Your child will be given mini-breaks as needed for snacks and to use the restroom. Once testing is complete the clinician will share results with you.

What is the cost of the assessment?

The assessment is $750.00 flat fee per child. There is no discount for multiple children. The cost covers the testing, scoring, feedback, and report writing and submission. Costs are paid at the time of sign-up for your scheduled appointment.

Can I use my insurance or receive a superbill?

Giftedness is NOT a diagnosis recognized in the DSM and historically most insurances do not pay for IQ testing as it is an educational test and not medically necessary. If however, during testing we suspect that your child might meet a diagnosis for something that is medically necessary we can let you know your options for continued testing and the cost of the IQ test would be incorporated. Your child needs to have a diagnosis for insurance reimbursement.

How do I use my voucher?

If you received a voucher to cover the cost of the assessment please email a copy of the voucher to our team at [email protected] to receive a voucher code to use when scheduling your appointment.

What if my child is sick?

If your child is not feeling 100% then please let the clinician know as soon as possible so that the appointment can be rescheduled. Rescheduling due to illness is allowed once at no additional fee. You can reschedule your appointment online through your confirmation email.

What is the cancellation policy?

Canceling an appointment must be done 72 hours in advance. You can cancel through your confirmation email for a 100% refund. Cancellations less that 72 hours are eligible for a partial refund of 50%.

What if my child is nervous or worried?

It's perfectly normal for children to be apprehensive about new situations. If the clinician feels that the child's nervousness will get in the way of the child being successful, they may engage the child in play for a few minutes to warm them up. If your child needs more time, the clinician will discuss options with you. Your child is welcome to bring a favorite stuffed animal or comforting toy to share with the clinician and have near by during testing. We want your child to perform at their best!

What should I tell my child about the assessment?

Words like "testing" and "assessment" can be triggering for some children who are perfectionistic or big feelers. Instead, let your child know that they will be meeting with a special kind of doctor. Not the kind that gives shots, but the kind that plays. Let them know that they will be doing activities and games with the doctor to teach the doctor all about how they learn best.

Why does my child have to go in alone?

IQ assessments are standardized tests. They must be given in an office with minimal distractions with only the examiner and examinee present to be considered to standard. Your presence would invalidate the standards, and therefore invalidate the scores.

What should I bring?

You are welcome to bring some snacks and water for your child to have during breaks. They can bring a special toy that brings them joy or comfort.

How do I sign-up multiple children?

Complete a new "Schedule an Appointment" form for each child. We often have back to back sessions available in the same day. There is no discount for multiple children.

What if English is my child's second language?

All testing must be conducted in English. If your child seems to have difficulty understanding a task, we will assess whether a language barrier or another issue is causing the confusion. We can include the non-verbal IQ score in the report, along with your child's language acquisition history, to better understand how language may be affecting their scores.

Can I schedule a second assessment if I don't agree with the results?

We understand that it can be disappointing if the results of an IQ assessment aren’t what you expected or hoped for. IQ assessments are standardized tests designed to measure cognitive abilities at a specific point in time, and to ensure accurate and valid results, retesting can only be done after 365 days. This allows enough time for meaningful cognitive growth to occur between assessments.

We also cannot accept retests if your child was previously tested by another provider, even if you were unhappy with the service. Our goal is always to provide high-quality, individualized testing and clear guidance, and we follow these professional standards to ensure fair and reliable results for every child.
